Meet the Owner Bill Farmer, DVM
Dr. Farmer began working with animals at age 18, cleaning kennels at a veterinary hospital in his home state of Alabama. He was hooked.
While pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science at Auburn University, Dr. Farmer worked at the university’s veterinary school in the dairy, milking cows, and in the parasitology lab. After graduation, he moved to St. Kitts to pursue a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine at Ross University.
“Having lived in the South and then the Caribbean, I did not know much about New York City. But, after a one week vacation in Brooklyn, I knew that this would be my forever home.”
He loves to talk about his favorite places–The Brooklyn Flea, the Barclays Center (where he watches the beloved Nets), and Prospect Park. Despite his dedication to his adopted borough, Dr. Farmer still retains a small-town charm and friendliness–a feeling he hopes the hospital embodies on a day-to-day basis.
“After practicing for many years in Fort Greene, I was thrilled at the opportunity to open my own hospital. I wanted to create a space that is welcoming and bright and where health-care is delivered with professionalism and compassion.”
With Fort Greene Park just around the corner, Dr. Farmer and his staff often greet dog owners during off-leash hours, promoting hospital events and connecting with the community.
Dr. Farmer resides in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. A fanatic bike-rider, you’ll often find him cruising around. If you do, please make sure you stop and wave hello.
“Until one has loved an animal, a part of one’s soul remains unawakened. ” — Anatole France
