Radiology

All our radiographs are evaluated in-house and then sent to radiologists for further review. Radiographs are a quick and easy imaging modality that provide details on internal organs and structures. We provide skeletal and soft tissue studies as well as specialized contrast studies. All of our systems use digital technology. Digital radiographs produce superior images and provide the ability to consult with radiologists in real time.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound allows the veterinarian to observe internal structures in real time. Ultrasound is a non-invasive, diagnostic tool that utilizes high-frequency sound waves to evaluate the size, shape, function and location of organs. These non-invasive, painless exams can detect the presence of fluid and the differences in tissue density in the chest and abdomen.

Cardiac Work Up

Cardiology is the branch of medicine that deals with diseases and abnormalities of the heart. Radiographs, echocardiograms, electrocardiograms (ECG) , and blood pressure evaluations are among the tools used to evaluate heart health. These tests are available at Heart of Brooklyn Veterinary Hospital.

Dermatology

Examining samples under the microscope is an important part of diagnosing ear and skin conditions. Our staff will obtain a non-invasive sample for evaluation while you wait. The veterinarian will discuss the findings and review a treatment plan. Our technicians will demonstrate how to apply medications.

In-House Diagnostics

We utilize in-house testing for both preventive care and emergency situations. Dogs are evaluated annually for mosquito and tick-borne diseases. Cats are screened for Feline Leukemia and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus. These results are available in 15 minutes.

Pancreatitis is inflammation of the pancreas. Vomiting, decreased appetite, and abdominal pain are common symptoms. A Pancreatic Lipase Immunoassay (PLI) is a test that can help rule out this life-threatening condition. Results are available in 45 minutes.

Urine can be evaluated with the aid of a refractometer. This will provide the specific gravity of the urine and assist in the diagnosis of kidney disease. Our chemistry analyzer can aid in the diagnosis of a life-threatening toxicity or low blood sugar.
